Today is the day between Good Friday and Easter, the waiting day or day of suspension. So I’m suspending the last nonet until tomorrow and posting a poem that I wrote a few years ago after taking a Good Friday prayer walk with other Christians right here in Rochester.

Balancing Act

I walked with Jesus today,

stepping carefully between

broken glass and purple hyacinths,

street noise and prayer,

stomped-on wrappers and fresh-painted doors,

murder sites and food cupboards,

dopers and preachers,

despair and hope,

Good Friday and Easter.
