Whispering Pines mini-golf course in Sea Breeze is on the National Register of Historic Places, having been opened in 1930 and in continual use since then. I challenged my husband to game there today – it’s the only type of golf we play.
The course is old and shows it’s age, but there were a few things that I especially liked. It still has a traditional windmill hole, which more modern courses have done away with. It also has a hole that I’ve never seen on other courses. You have to hit the ball like in a game of real golf. It has to cross over some grass before landing on the green. I had to do this one twice. And then there was the hole that is always my nemesis – the hole where you have to hit the ball uphill. I almost always have to take 5 strokes on this hole, and today went as I expected.
But the highlight of the game was on the 18th hole where I got a hole-in-one and a coupon for a free game.
If you eat next door at the Parkside Diner before you play, you can get 50 cents off on a game of golf. They have the same ownership. Fore!
