Day 155

I spent the last 3 days at the LEAH (Loving Education at Home) convention at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. I sold a good amount of books and spoke with a lot of interesting people from all over New York state. There were a number of vendors there which were family businesses, and the kids took an active part in the sales. It was an uplifting experience even though I sat too much to get in all of my steps.

The convention center itself is a beautiful structure, with a wall of windows overlooking the Genesee River. I took these pictures from an outside overlook.

This is the Broad St. bridge. In the 1800’s it was an aqueduct, carrying the Erie Canal over the Genesee River. In later years it became a subway route. Now it just carries motor vehicle traffic and provides shelter for some of Rochester’s homeless.

The statue of Mercury and the Wings of Progress are also unique to the Rochester skyline. Signs of prosperity, they’re reminders of where we came from and a challenge for the future.
