Day 115

One of my favorite places to walk in Rochester is along the Erie Canal path. It’s flat, scenic, historic, and paved in a lot of places. In Fairport it’s also populated, so I don’t have to worry about walking alone. When I was tutoring math at BOCES in Fairport, I would walk there every day when I was done. After a morning of kids and numbers, walking the canal path provided the calm and physical activity I needed to clear my head.

Did you know that the canal is drained every fall for inspection and repair? Today the Fairport section was being refilled. The Canal Corp. uses water from nearby lakes, rivers, and reservoirs to slowly refill it. On Saturday, the canal east of Palmyra was filled, but west was not.

There are a lot of interesting things to see along the path. Today my favorite sight was this sign outside the BBQ place announcing Lappy Hour for dogs. You just have to love a place that has Lappy Hour.
