Today was on the cool side, so I did my stepping inland a little bit in the city of Cocoa. Cocoa is a very small city with around 16,000 inhabitants. It was founded by fishermen in 1882 as Indian River City because it’s right along the river, but the US Postal Service rejected that name because it was too long to fit on the postmark stamp. There are conflicting stories of how it came to be called Cocoa, but that’s been the name since 1884.
There’s a nice little shopping area called Cocoa Village. It has great women’s stores and lots of benches for husbands. My favorite place in the village is called Osario’s. It’s a cafe with strong coffee and homemade ice cream. A scoop of the rum raisen is reason enough to visit.
