Varysburg Part 2

My second trip to Varysburg was again with the grandkids, but this time with Kristen. Actually we were just passing through Varysburg on the way to East Aurora and Viddler’s, the old fashioned 5 and 10 cent store.

East Aurora is a charming little town with lots of restaurants and shops. Vidler’s is in a prominent shop right on Main St. My favorite part of the shop was the candy section, where you can buy candy by the pound. There’s also a popcorn machine. Put 10 cents in the slot, stand a little paper bag under the spout, and watch the popcorn come out. What a bargain!

I was expecting to see an old fashioned soda fountain, but they don’t have one, nor any place to eat in the store. That was a disappointment, but there are plenty of other places to eat in town. Another feature I liked were the rolls of oilcloth. It brought back memories of going to Neisner’s in downtown Rochester to buy oilcloth for our kitchen table. I’d like to go back without the grandkids sometime and just look some more.

East Aurora also boasts the Fisher Price headquarters and company store.  In keeping with the charm of the town, Fisher Price has a pretty piece of property and a very attractive campus.  Just don’t go looking for bargains at the Fisher Price store unless you’re an employee. We found that we could buy the toys for less at Target or Wal-mart.

All in all, this is a  great day trip from Rochester.
