Can High Tech and Low Tech be friends? I think so. Today they worked well together for me.
Kristen and I decided to take a day trip with the babies to Honeoye Lake. We didn’t know what we were going to do when we got there – we were just rambling. I love maps, and an old fashioned paper map is great for rambling. Kristen drove, and I navigated with the map on my lap. The babies in back alternately slept, babbled or hollered. I chose some country roads, and after about an hour, we were in Honeoye.
We found a cute little restaurant called the Village Grill for lunch. Two highchairs for the kids, and we were in business. Afterwords we poked around in a bookstore called Mackeral Sky. I’d recommend both. Then back in the car for a loop around the lake. Returning to the top of the lake, we came upon a little recreation area. We took the kids out for some play time – it even had two baby swings.
The kids didn’t want to leave, but we decided to head home with the thought of finding an ice cream parlor along the way. We thought sure we’d find one in Honeoye Falls, but didn’t see any as we slowly drove through town and even onto one of the side streets. Then we got the idea to check Google Maps on our phones. Sure enough, Google came up with Dipper Dan’s and gave us directions on how to get there. Although it was only a mile from where we were, we wouldn’t have found it on our own.
So, even an old fashioned map reader like me appreciated the ability to find ice cream on command. Now, if it could only figure out a way to erase the calories.
