Do you remember this old Girl Scout song?
“Make new friends but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.”
That’s the way I feel about places in Rochester. This week I had the opportunity to visit one new place and two familiar places.
First the silver. I had heard lots of good things about the new Brew House at the Genesee Brewery, and I was not disappointed. My family went for lunch, and the view of Rochester was terrific even though the day we were there was dreary. The menu is strictly salads, soups and sandwiches even in the evenings. Of course there is Genesee beer on tap, along with a few others – no wine or liquor. For me, the sandwich choice was a no-brainer. I ordered the beef on weck and again was not disappointed. Also the pretzel w/cheese dip appetizer was delicious. The restaurant is upstairs. Downstairs is a tasting room and a gift shop with lots of brewery memorabilia. Go, take your family, reminisce or just enjoy.
Now the gold. I took my grandkids to see the Lego exhibit at the Strong Museum . The theme is transportation, and , of course, I appreciated it more than my grandkids, who are too young right now. We also visited the train, the carousel, and mini-Wegmans. Old stand-bys at Strong.
I also made a quick visit to George Eastman House to see the Dutch connection. This is a display of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other bulbs that GEH has on display every year. By the time you read this, the flowers will be gone. (I’ve been having technical trouble and was waiting until I could upload pictures, but I’m still having trouble with that.) Anyway, put the Dutch connection on your list for next February. Old friends deserve a visit at least once a year.
