February 14, 2013 My Daughter’s Feet

My Daughter’s Feet

Little feet, little feet
Oh, those precious tickle feet.

Swimming, kicking in the womb,
Making sure your presence known.
Jabbing here and prodding there
I feel them poking everywhere.

Baby, on your back you go,
Foot to mouth and gums to toe.
What a special, tasty treat
Sucking on those perfect feet.

Toddler, up and stepping round.
Whoops! You sway and fall back down.
Up again. You’re on your way,
Walking, falling, all the day.

And then the time to put on shoes.
Carefully we look and choose.
Shoes that fit and suit you best.
Shoes that let you leave the nest.

Soon those feet are off to school.
Who would guess that feet are cruel?
Taking what I love so dear
And marching her right out of here.

And so in steps the time goes by,
Running, always on the fly.
Dancing, skipping through the years
Proud, I watch you through the tears.

A bride, those feet are wearing heels.
At an altar where you kneel.
Into a new life you sail,
Beaded gown and flowered veil.

But then I see those feet anew
Coming slowly into view,
Making now my life complete
I gaze content on little feet.

What in life can be this sweet?
My daughter’s daughter’s little feet.
