October 31, 2012 New Stoves

Everybody should get a new stove every 60 years or so. At least that’s what the people of Bethlehem Lutheran Church think. We just voted to remove our 60+ year-old gas stove from the basement kitchen and replace it with 2 new models.

With 10 burners and 2 big ovens, this stove had served us well for many years. Who knows how many ham dinners or beef barbeques came out of that oven or how many funeral meals, potluck suppers and breakfast casseroles were prepared there? The stove still worked, but the oven had to be lit with a match, and the parts were getting rusty. Even still, some folk were not convinced of the necessity to buy a new one. The bottom line was that we didn’t want the stove  to become a safety hazard.

So last Saturday, a half dozen strong hands dissembled the stove and hauled it out of the basement. We recycled the parts for scrap metal and even made a few bucks in the process.

So now we have a freshly painted kitchen and 2 new gas stoves just in time for our bazaar on November 17. Come on down to Plank Rd. and check us out. I’m pretty sure you won’t see new stoves again for another 60 years.
