March 29, 2012 Elevator Police

Have you ever wanted to call the Elevator Police? This week I wanted to do just that. Let me explain.

One night Gary and I were walking back to our resort from an emergency trip to Dunkin’ Donuts (They’re not Donuts Delite, but any port in a storm as my mother used to say) when several fire trucks whizzed past us. As we got closer to the resort, we encountered the scene in this picture.

The resort was not on fire, but the motor of the elevator had burned out and set off the smoke alarms. The worst thing that happened was that a few kids got trapped on one of the elevators for a few minutes. The most annoying thing for us was the alarm that would not shut off and having to walk up to our room on the fifth floor.

This resort has 8 floors with 10 units on each floor. Normally the 2 elevators work very well, and we spend very little time waiting for an elevator. However, while we were waiting 10 days for the part for the broken elevator things got to be a little tense. Keep in mind that people are constantly coming and going with luggage, groceries, etc. that take up a lot of elevator space. My problem was not with them, but with all the people who use the elevator to go up or down one floor. I found myself wanting to scream at them, “USE THE STAIRS.” Hence the need for Elevator Police.

What would you do if you ran the world?
