SATURDAY PART 1: I woke up early and got to the gym before it opened. THAT’S never happened before. Sedentary Sal would have sat in the car for 8 minutes and read a book. (I always travel with reading material.) But Stepping Sal got out of the car, walked along the strip mall sidewalk for the 8 minutes and racked up 800 steps. What’s happened to me? Have I become a stepping fanatic? Will my family have to do an intervention? Stay tuned…
SATURDAY PART 2: Gary and I finally put up a wallpaper border in our powder room. We bought the paper 8 months ago, but we’d been put off by the 9 foot ceiling, the need for 2 ladders, and the small space. Think Laurel and Hardy or Lucy and Ethel. We were moving along very smoothly until we were done papering and had to re-hang the curtain rod. I won’t go into details, but things went downhill very rapidly.
NOTE TO NEWLYWEDS: Do not attempt to wallpaper with your spouse unless your marriage is very secure. Wallpapering together has been known to lead to celibacy and/or divorce.
SATURDAY PART 3: We got cleaned up and went to Casino Night at the Moose Lodge in Palmyra. All the profits went to the Wayne County Red Cross. Two things impressed me. First, 3 organizations, the Moose Club, the Red Cross, and the Walworth Lions’ Club all worked together to pull this off. The Lions ran the games, and it was a lot of fun playing with Barton bucks – much less traumatic to lose too. The second thing I noted was that I met a number of people who came to the event because they had experienced house fires, and were so grateful to the Red Cross for helping them in their time of need. They were there simply to give back – a step of thanksgiving.
