On our last night in Florida, Gary and I went to a Christmas celebration in the town of Celebration. Celebration is a planned community just outside of Disney World. It has a town square, a pretty little lake, and a number of fancy gift shops and restaurants in the center of town. For Christmas, they had the usual decorations, dancers from the local dance studios, and an artificial ice rink. Some of the kids were using some contraptions that I’ve never seen before to stay up on the “ice.” They looked liked walkers for the elderly, but made out of pvc.
I had to laugh because we northerners were in the south to avoid the cold weather, and the southerners were trying to pretend they were up north. This reminds me of a poem by Ogden Nash. It goes like this:
As a rule a man’s a fool. When it’s hot he wants it cool. When it’s cool, he wants it hot. What it is, he wants it not.
