A funeral took me out to Pittsford today. My friend and colleague, Kathy Swingle, died way too young. Kathy had more than her share of suffering, combating heart disease, cancer and finally dementia. Her death was not totally unexpected, but heartbreaking nonetheless. Kathy was a good teacher, a loving wife and mother, and a worthy opponent when we got together to play games or cards. She will be greatly missed.
I stopped by the canal park at lock 32 on my way home to lift my spirits a bit. This is a great little park with play equipment for kids and an observation tower for everyone to walk up and look at the canal. This part of the towpath is paved. It even has a yellow line down the middle so it’s very easy to walk. There’s a marshy area nearby where I spotted a blue heron. The canal takes some twists and turns here, a good place for contemplating the twists and turns of life.
