I hit the mall at 9am. This time, instead of my husband, I brought a friend who likes to walk as much as I do. In fact, she walks faster than I do, and after an hour, I had logged 8,200 steps. Thanks, KC.
When I finished walking, I took a moment to catch my breath at the mall fountain. Just yesterday I read in Rochester Magazine how Eastview Mall collects over $3,000 in change every year from the fountains and donates it to charity. I decided to throw in my change. When I opened my wallet all I had was 5 pennies. I threw in the 1st penny and said a quick prayer for my husband. I threw in the next 2 pennies and said prayers for my 2 daughters. I threw in the 4th penny and said a prayer for myself. One penny left. I said a prayer for my walking partner and tossed it in. 5 pennies certainly doesn’t amount to very much, but even pennies add up to dollars if you put enough of them together. Most of us can’t make too much of a difference in the world all by ourselves, but together we can do lots.
Toss a penny in a fountain. Make a wish. Say a prayer. And then step into the rest of the day.
