Today I went with some other members of the Wayne Writers Guild to do some poetry reading at Parkwood Heights, a senior living facility off of Rte. 31 in Macedon. The Parkwood is a beautiful, airy place with this lovely atrium. Most of our readings today were humorous or at least light-hearted, reflective of the place and the people. Like most senior homes, the Parkwood is full of life.
I also have to mention another independent bookstore that I discovered in the town of Clifton Springs. It’s called Explore, a perfect name for a bookstore. Where else, except a library, can you see so much of the world while remaining in one place? Anne Mancilla, the owner, is a retired teacher and carries lots of books for kids and also lots of books of local interest. Stop in and visit if you’re out that way. The shop is on Main St. right across the street from the old hospital and santorium, which is a big, beautiful, brick building (she said alliteratively) with a long rocker-filled porch. Someday it might be nice to just sit in one of those rockers and watch the world go by, but for now, I’ll just keep on steppin’.
