If you want to see patriotic spirit, you have to attend a small town parade. Tonight the Walworth Lion’s Club kicked off the Festival in the Park with a local parade. It had all the right ingredients: firetrucks, beauty queens, girl scouts and boy scouts, marching band, and decorated floats all with a patriotic theme. I helped carry this flag, which got lots of response from the crowd. Elderly people struggled to stand up and salute, kids cheered, and bystanders sponaneously started singing God Bless America. It was a goosebump moment, and it put me over the top with steps.
