Today a found a treasure trove of poetry. My friend Faith shared with me a notebook of poems written by her mother, Verdun Rose Griepp, back in the 1930’s. I was surprised and pleased to find that some of the poems were written in the form of cinquains. Verdun has passed away, but Faith gave me permission to share the cinquains here.
Et Me
Ah life,
Deep mystery
Which no one understands …
I have never been understood
Either.
Unrequited Love
Her heart
Raced on swiftly –
Pulse beat furiously –
But his remained oh, so very
Normal!
Cinquains
Cinquains
Are fun and I
Never cared much for work!
So I now compose only
Cinquains!
