Have you ever struggled to get your kids or grandkids to sit still in church? Have you wondered if it’s worth the effort, and what are they getting out of the service anyway? Two-year- old Evan has it all figured out. Church is “Amen.” On Sundays, it’s “go Amen.” During the week he says, “more Amen.” When he drives past any church, he just points and says “Amen.” To his two-year-old friend, Isabelle, church is “Hallelujah.” Like Evan, during the week she will ask her mom if they are going to “Hallelujah.” I love it that at this age they see church as a welcoming place, somewhere to meet friends, somewhere they want to go. As for their theology, who knows? Hallelujah means “praise the Lord.” The dictionary defines Amen as an expression of hearty approval, but recently I heard someone define Amen as “I believe.” I think I like that definition better. In the end, maybe it all just comes down to this – Hallelujah! Amen!
