Saturday was a great day for a book festival – not that any day isn’t a good day to celebrate books and reading. This was the 16th year of the Rochester Children’s Book Festival, and it just keeps getting better every year. It’s a festival that was started by local author Vivian VandeVelde in a town library and has grown so much over time that it’s now held at MCC.
Some observations from this year’s festival:
I was impressed by how many kids came with fathers and how many boys were into books.
One highlight of the day was when a bus full of kids arrived from Camden, NY, which I found out is northwest of Rome, NY – not just around the corner.
Having someone tell you how much they love your books makes all the time spent thinking, writing, re-writing and proofreading worthwhile.
Hooray for books!
