September 23, 2012 Fringe Festival

No, I didn’t get to see the people dancing on the sides of the buildings downtown, but I did get to see a play at the Fringe Festival entitled “Divine Milieu: The Last Confession of Teilhard de Chardin.”

What? You’ve never heard of Teilhard de Chardin? Neither had I until I saw this play. I went because it was written by my dear friend, John Cieslinski, the proprieter of Books, Etc., a used bookstore in Macedon. I belong to a writing group that meets there twice a month. John never talks about his own writing, but is always there to offer generous praise and words of encouragement to every other writer. He is more about collecting people rather than books, and his bookstore is more a ministry than a business. You might not find the exact book you’re looking for there, but you definitely will find a hot cup of coffee and a listening ear. Thank God for people like John and for places like Books, Etc.

By the way, the play was interesting. It was about a priest who ran into trouble with the Vatican for endorsing evolution. It got me thinking about God and science, which is exactly what the Fringe Festival is about – making us step out of our comfort zone and ask questions. I’m already planning to attend next year. How about you?
