August 16, 2012 Cacti

I was walking through Perinton Park today when I saw this patch of cacti in the garden at the base of the flagpole. It’s very rare to see cacti planted outside in Rochester, but I have to admit that this would have been the perfect summer to try it. I don’t think the cactus will be replacing the rose as New York’s state flower, but after a few more summers like this one, who knows? Either way it’s beauty with thorns.
