I was working on some quilts again last week for a couple of baptisms. Since I had a deadline, I decided to buy quilt kits instead of starting from scratch – kind of like making a cake from a box. I still had to measure, cut, pin, and sew, but I didn’t have to think about design, material or lay-out. That was all done for me – or so I thought. The kits each started with a decorated quilt panel, but the first instruction was to cut the panel down to 29 1/2 inches by 35 1/2 inches. If I had done that, the design would have been ruined. So I plunged ahead with the borders without trimming the panel. Of course, I ran out of fabric because the kit only contained enough for the smaller quilt. I was furious, and had to spend way too much time figuring out what and how I was going to add to this to make a presentable design. I should have just returned both kits to the store, and started from scratch, but I didn’t think I had time for that either.
All’s well that ends well. The quilts turned out fine although they took a lot more time than I expected
And, I just hate it when I have to think. How about you?
