Do you remember those black and white movies from the 1940’s where the expectant father is pacing back and forth in the waiting room while his wife is in another room giving birth? Except for the part where the father passes out cigars at the end, that was me today. While Kris and Dave were in the labor room, the rest of us huddled together in the waiting area.
Now, although I came prepared with a paperback novel and a puzzle book, there were times when I just had to get up and walk. I think the hospitals purposely furnish the waiting areas with the most uncomfortable furniture they can find just so families don’t camp out there. I don’t think it was my imagination that the chairs increased in hardness as evening turned into nighttime.
Pacing does relieve nervous energy as does frequent trips to the vending machines. Walking and Good and Plenties – a soothing combination.
