Day 278 Wellsboro, PA

We headed back north today with one more stopover in Wellsboro, PA., the gateway to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. I love how every little town has its own claim to fame. We had hiked the canyon trails on our last visit here, so this time we decided to take the scenic train ride. The leaves were only just starting to turn so the foliage was a little disappointing, but we did spot a bald eagle perched on a tree in the distance, close enough to know that it was  an eagle, far enough not to be able to get a good picture.

Back in town we wandered around the village green, where they have a fountain of Wynken, Blynken and Nod. I found a picture book with the poem beautifully illustrated in the local bookstore and bought it for my soon to be first grandchild. Then we wandered farther down main street to the Lincoln Door House. Apparently just the door (not the house) was a gift to the owners in 1858 from Abe Lincoln. They were friends from Springfield. Like I said, every town has its claim to fame.
