Day 222 Hedges

I spent part of day 222 with the #22 School teachers. How’s that for karma? We met for lunch at Hedges on Lake Rd. and Rte. 250 in Webster. Today wasn’t exactly a perfect day for visiting a lakefront restaurant, but we were able to enjoy the view for a while before the whitecaps came up and the rain came down. An artistic display of driftwood runs along the beach.

Hedges is one of Rochester’s oldest restaurants. The Nawrocki family opened it in 1928 on Norton St. in Rochester. According to the menu, it was called Hedges because of a row of bushes next to the restaurant, and the hedges were used to conceal illegal booze in prohibition days. They’ve been at this site on the lake since 1954. There aren’t that many lakefront or bayfront restaurants in Rochester anymore, but I think Hedges is the best.

Good food. Good company. So what if it rains a little.
