One of the things on my summer to-do list every day is checking the skimmer basket on the swimming pool. In June it’s always full of cotton, in July it’s Japanese beetles, and anytime it rains, it’s full of frogs. Sometimes when I lift the cover off a frog will jump out at me. Although it startles me, I’m ok with that. I’d rather see the frogs alive than dead, especially when the dead ones have already started to bleach white from the chlorine. I lift the basket out and toss the frogs onto the lawn, hoping they’ll hop away. Often I’m surprised to see them hopping right back toward the pool.
I guess some people – I mean frogs – just don’t want to be rescued.
