Today I did some hobnobbing with the Rochester elite. I had lunch at Locust Hill Country Club. It was a meeting of Women in Insurance and Financial Services which my daughter, Robyn, helped organize. I tagged along. I’d never been to Locust Hill, but I was impressed. This is a picture of the first tee. At least I think it’s the first tee. I don’t really know, but it was the tee closest to the front door. I’m also assuming there are some locust trees down the fairway, but again I don’t really know. I do know that Locust Hill is the home of the Wegman’s Rochester International LPGA Tournament, a big deal in Rochester in June. I was interested in the history of the club and found out that in 1925 nine holes were carved out of 89 acres of farmland on the north side of Jefferson Rd. The barn was converted into a locker room, and the farm house became the club house. Later another nine holes were added across the street. The club has undergone many renovations over the years, some as a result of fires, but it has endured and remains Rochester’s premier golf club. Fore!
