Didn’t get all my steps in, but had lots of fun.
I went to the New York Wine & Culinary Center in Canandaigua for my niece Lynn’s bachelorette party. The guests split into groups and cooked up a gourmet meal while sipping on some great Finger Lakes wine. I helped make the apple/cherry cobbler dessert. Speaking as a mom who cooked a full meal (meat, potatoes, salad, vegetables, dessert) almost every night for 30 years, I loved only being responsible for one part of the meal.
When everything was ready, I wolved down the chopped salad with several vinegrettes, au gratin potatoes with mushrooms, a risotto with bacon and chicken breasts wrapped in prosciutto.
When it came time for dessert, I started to slow down. I’m not sure if that’s because I really love dessert and wanted to savor it (I’m of the “save the best for last” and not the”eat dessert first” school of philosophy.) or because I was just getting full. Maybe it was because I just didn’t want the evening to end. Life is full of bad news, and it felt great to be out celebrating with young people who are looking to the future with hope.
By they way, the apple/cherry cobbler was the best I’ve ever tasted, if I do say so myself. Maybe it had to do with the wine we used to re-hydrate the dried cherries.
Best wishes Lynn and Kirk.
