Yesterday I was dodging Portuguese men o’ war on the beach. Today I ran into another wild creature. While walking down the boardwalk, I came face to face with a raccoon. He was as startled as I was and ran under the brush. Then he turned around and looked defiently at me from about 10 feet away. I wanted to take his picture – I even had my camera with me – but I decided that I didn’t need a trip to urgent care. (I might miss happy hour)

So, call me a coward, but after we stared at each other for a few seconds, I walked away. Sometimes you just have to step away from danger.
