Good News
Rochester is a great place to live weatherwise. (Just don’t look out the window.) I was looking at some top 10 lists for all kinds of weather, and the good news is that Rochester is not on any of them. Think it’s always cloudy here? Not so. Binghampton has 212 cloudy days a year, and Rochester didn’t make the top 10. Think it rains all the time? Syracuse (171), Buffalo (169), and Binghamton (162) all have more rainy days a year than Rochester. Again, we’re not on the top 10 list at all. We didn’t make the list for snow either, although Syracuse did with 111.6 inches. Stay away from Oklahoma – hail and tornados. Florida has 9 of the top 10 cities for thunder storms. Wind? Rochester, Minn. is the 4th windiest city in the U.S., but Rochester, NY – not on the list.
So when it comes to weather, not excelling can be a good thing. Maybe our new city slogan should be: Welcome to Rochester. We excel at mediocrity – at least weatherwise.
