I have 2 main goals for this year. One is to walk more, and the other is to write more. At first it may seem that I’m working at cross purposes, and sometimes I am. I had trouble getting my steps in today because I spent time at a writers’ group.
But more often the writing and the walking complement each other very well. After a session at the computer I just have to get up and move around. When I tutored math at BOCES in Fairport, I would leave the classroom and head for the canal path to walk all those numbers out of my head. Who wants Train A and Train B traveling in opposite directions in their brain all day? Conversely, when I’m walking I’m often writing a poem or an essay in my head and can’t wait to get home to write it down on paper. One day after gardening (a very physical endeavor) I wrote an essay entitled The Devil’s in the Dirt.
And walking and writing converge very nicely in this blog. Life is good.
