Today the family and friends of Bill Faucette (see Day 21) gathered together to recount the steps of Bill’s life. The funeral was held at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church on Adams St. in Corn Hill.
Dating back to 1910, Mt. Olivet was the first African American Baptist church in Rochester. Now the outside is a beautiful blend of old and new architecture, and the inside is a beautiful blend of black and white faces. They are 700 people strong and maintain close ties to the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.
Bill’s life was full of both big steps and small steps. And sometimes Bill took an extra step. One day after we were both retired and hadn’t seen each other for awhile, I came out of the mall to find a note under my windshield. It was from Bill. He had picked out my car in the parking lot and took the time to stop and write something funny. It made my day.
That was Bill – always taking the time to socialize and have a laugh.
How can you make your steps count today?
