Day 23

Today I exercised my mind with a game of Scrabble with some friends. I might have won except that Sue got a triple word score for 36 points, and Karen stole my spot for her own word. They wouldn’t let me use qi, although I swore it was some kind of Oriental energy thing. Can […]

Day 22

Today the family and friends of Bill Faucette (see Day 21) gathered together to recount the steps of Bill’s life. The funeral was held at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church on Adams St. in Corn Hill. Dating back to 1910, Mt. Olivet was the first African American Baptist church in Rochester. Now the outside is a beautiful blend […]

Day 21

Today I had to step where nobody wants to go – calling hours for my dear friend, Bill Faucette, who died on Sunday. Bill and I taught next door to each other for over 10 years. Along with Mary Ellen and Dick, we shared a big old basement room that had been partitioned off into 4 […]

Day 20

I hit the mall at 9am. This time, instead of my husband, I brought a friend who likes to walk as much as I do. In fact, she walks faster than I do, and after an hour, I had logged 8,200 steps. Thanks, KC. When I finished walking, I took a moment to catch my […]

Day 19

The snow outside is only an illusion. Ditto the low temperature. Spring is here! Look at what I saw in Wegmans today. Day 19: 11,049 Steps  YTD: 158,782 Steps  Goal: 176,000 Steps

Day 18

I did some stepping today around the quilting tables at church. Every Tuesday morning, our quilting group meets to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. This is a tradition that’s been going on for as long as our oldest members can remember. We use mostly donated fabric, old sheets, curtains, matress covers. We measure, cut, […]

Day 17

I had an appointment with a new doctor today. I had been told that his office was on the second floor, so when I stepped into the office building, I immediately started looking for the stairs. I thought I would get in some extra steps without really trying. On my left was a big office, […]

Day 16

Today I had the best experience an author can have. I went to GEVA to see “I’ll be Geneseeing You” and saw my books for sale in the lobby giftshop. I didn’t know they were there, and it was quite an unexpected thrill. The show, a spoof of Rochester by The Second City, was really […]

Day 15

THIS is why I need to walk 11,000 steps a day.   If you are what you eat, then I’m a hot fudge sundae with mint chocolate chip ice cream and whipped cream and a cherry. I got hooked on them when I was a college student working at Friendly’s, and I hate to tell you […]

Day 14

I managed to just make my 11,000 steps today without going to the gym. All it took was dusting, vacuuming, mopping, changing the sheets, cleaning the bathrooms, doing laundry and going grocery shopping. It would have been easier to use the treadmill for 45 minutes. Day 14: 11,001 Steps  YTD: 115,346 Steps  Goal: 132,000 Steps
